Airbus originated from Airbus Industrie GIE, a consortium of European aerospace companies formed in 1970 to produce wide-body aircraft to compete with American-built aircraft. In 2000, the consortium's parent companies, France's Aérospatiale -Matra, Germany's DASA, and Spain's EADS CASA merged to form the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company ( EADS ), which subsequently acquired Airbus Industrie. EADS changed its name to Airbus SE in 2015. Reflecting its multinational roots, the company operates offices and assembly lines in France, German , Spain, and the United Kingdom, with recent additions in Canada, Malaysia, the United States, Morocco, and India.
Airbus's legal headquarters are in Leiden, the Netherlands, while day-to-day operations are carried out from its main office in Blagnac, France. The SE in the company name stands for Societas European, a joint-stock company under European Union corporate law. Airbus is led by CEO Guillaume Faury and is a member of the EURO STOXX 50 stock index. Since its founding in 2000, the company's shares have been listed on the Paris, Frankfurt and four Spanish stock exchanges, including the Bolsa de Madrid.
History

Headquartered in Blagnac, a suburb of the French city of Toulouse. The company produces about half of the world's jetliners and has significant operations across Europe.
Airbus began as a consortium of aerospace manufacturers, Airbus Industrie. Following the expansion of the business, BAE (British Aerospace) sold its shares to EADS on October 13, 2006.
