Fictitious history
The army of Capella, a democratic state that gained independence from the USA around the time of the Russo-Japanese War, recognised the need for a domestically produced ground-attack aircraft as a neutral country in the Pacific due to the deteriorating situation between Pacific Rim countries.
The aircraft type was a biplane, which was already becoming obsolete at the time, in order to secure the payload.
The engine was a copy of the Amakaze (Ha13), which had been smuggled in from Japan, and was converted to a 1,000 hp engine by modifying it by connecting two units to form a sub-row, and connecting a variable pitch propeller.
Part of the fuselage was upholstered with fabric to reduce weight, and the cockpit area was made of steel plates combined into a box shape to protect the passengers from anti-aircraft fire.
It was powered by a high power engine for a biplane and weighed close to that of monoplane fighters of the time, but its speed was slow due to high drag, and the exposed cockpit restricted its operating altitude.
However, it achieved some success in defensive battles by making use of its abundant payload and cruising performance in repeated attacks and by conserving power by using concealed airfields set up in mountainous areas.
A derivative version, with seaplane specifications, was used to patrol the countless islands around the main island.
Some pilots also made use of its slow speed and high turning capability to achieve results in air-to-air combat.
After the war, unarmed versions were exported to Western countries, where they were used for various purposes, including acrobatics, tourism and agriculture.
