In the wake of increasing global military commitments in the early 2000s, Falconridge Aerospace unveiled the C-100 “MegaWorm”, a next-generation heavy airlifter designed for rapid deployment of outsized cargo to forward bases and austere airstrips. Nicknamed the “MegaWorm” for its elongated fuselage and remarkable payload capacity, the aircraft was engineered as a high-volume hauler capable of swallowing main battle tanks, helicopters, and large modular supplies.Powered by four Falconridge VT-220 high-thrust turbofan engines, the C-100 was the first aircraft of its class to feature a reinforced tricycle landing gear system that allowed operations from rough terrain. Its split nose design, inspired by cargo aircraft from the Cold War era, earned it a distinct appearance and the operational flexibility to load oversized equipment without specialized ground support.First deployed during Operation Steel Mantle (2003), the MegaWorm proved essential in ferrying NATO equipment into conflict zones and humanitarian disaster areas. Despite skepticism over its unconventional looks, it quickly earned a reputation as a dependable workhorse among allied forces.Still in limited service with NATO’s rapid response command, the C-100 MegaWorm remains a symbol of early 21st-century airlift ingenuity — a massive, lumbering beast that could go anywhere and carry anything under 210 tons.
