Focke-Wulf Fw 190 D-9 Dora V1.0
For SimplePlanes

The Fw 190 Dora is easily distinguished from its predecessors by the Jumo 213A inline engine as opposed to the radial BMW 801, which required lengthening the nose to fit the engine and the tail to balance the airframe. Compared to earlier Fw 190’s, the Dora boasts a superior turn rate, climb rate, and dive speed. In the latter stages of the Second World War when it was introduced, the Fw 190 D-9 would mainly serve in the anti-fighter role and some squadrons would cover Me 262 airfields, as they were vulnerable on takeoff and landing.

Nazi Germany was the military sole operator of the Fw 190 D-9, excluding captured airframes. There are still several surviving examples of Fw 190’s in museums, with three being D-9’s. While no Fw 190 D-9’s are airworthy today, there is one airworthy D-13 at the Flying Heritage Collection in Everett, Washington. However, it is grounded since it is the last remaining airworthy D-13.
