The Mikoyan MiG-29 is a Russian twin-engine, air superiority and multirole, fighter aircraft designed in the Soviet Union. Developed by the Mikoyan Design Bureau in the 70s, it was originally designed as an air superiority fighter aircraft. The Mikoyan MiG-29, along with the larger Sukhoi Su-27, were also designed to counter new American fighters, such as the F-15 Eagle and F-16 Fighting Falcon. It first flew in October 1977 and would enter service in 1982 with the Soviet Air Force (The Su-27 in 1985 despite its maiden flight in May 1977).
