Loening PA-1

32.3k IntoTheDesignatedGridZone  one year ago

The Loening PA-1 was a fighter aircraft prototype built by Loening Aeronautical Engineering and flown in 1922 with a Wright R-1454 radial engine and is armed by a Vickers machine gun and provisions for a total of 140 kilograms of bombs.

Its engine, an R-1454 is a nine-cylinder radial engine built by the Wright company and is also fitted in an American Airco DH.4.

The performance was dismal due to the engine choice and thick wings (the Clark airfoil was not in use yet) led to its cancellation, only reaching 209 km/h.
