This was Lockheed's prototype for the US Army's super fighter program, this aircraft was very loosely based off Lockheeds' P-38 fighter,the only thing in common is the central nacelle and the twin tail boom design, it was actually not as good as expected the contra-rotating propellars produced similar speeds to the P-38 with no real manuverability increases, evaluations after the war showed if the L-046 was of a coventional design it would've performed slightly better
