Sukhoi Su-67 “Firefish” (N.A.T.F. Program Challenge Entry)

18.5k Thelegitpilot13  4.6 years ago
Auto Credit Based on HNL47's NATF Program Challenge (CLOSED)

My first upload, a design I made while bored in an engineering class, then tweaked it in the game. Took 3 days to draw and finalize, then 3 more days to actually make. Design loosely based off of the Su-57, camouflage based on the Su-47.

Score: 60/100
Placement: 7th

Description:
A Russian, carrier-borne multirole fighter, with extreme levels of supermaneuverability.

Grouping:
1 - Wing Folding: VTOL
3 - “Refueling” Probe: VTOL UP
4 - Cockpit Night lights
7 - 3D, 3 Axis Thrust Vectoring
8 - Arresting Wire

Standard Armament (Air-to-Ground Stealth):
2x Guardians SSAAM
2x Interceptor LAAM
2x Bomb 50 UGB
3x Inferno MAGM
1x Minigun
2x Flare Dispenser
The armament can be changed to however the pilot sees, with room for Cleavers instead of Bomb 50s and Infernos. All weaponry on this model is stock.

Other Armaments (Modified Weapons):
Stealthy, Air-Air (PRIMARY):
Stealthy, Air-Ground:
Unstealthy, Air-Air:
Unstealthy, Air-Ground:
Stealthy, Reconnaissance:

Fictional Backstory:
The PAK FA program was a success. Russia was finally building new fighters after learning of the ATF and JSF programs. But, after some thought, it was deemed that the Su-57 was too large without folding wings, and that it would also not suit for ground attack missions that required stealth. So, rather than making newer versions of the Su-57 for the navy, like the US had with their JSF program, they would instead work on a new aircraft. It was deemed that Sukhoi, with their preexisting knowledge on stealth aircraft, would head this program, thus developing the T-60 Block 1. After further improvements, Sukhoi released their final model of the T-60 program, the Su-67, around late 2025. But it was not unnoticed by NATO, who upon learning of the program, gave the designator “Firefish” due to it being both a naval fighter, and it having multiple reports and accidents of engine fires on catapult launches.

Unit Cost:
$60,000,000

Notes of the aircraft:
This airframe is fairly unstable, but it was made that way. It is supermaneuverable, so much so that thrust vectoring is not needed for even Kulbits (though highly recommended to have for getting out of them). Just remember not to yank on the stick when flying at high speeds, for that is the best way to have a high-speed, high G Kulbit in less than a second. In other words, use about half of the stick over Mach 1, and don’t yank it around like a maniac.

@ThomBomb Thank you! For the roundels I used fuselage parts. As for the issues you noticed:

    1. Issue 1: It possibly has to do with the gun not being centered, and instead on the right side (pushing the COM slightly right). Though not much more than a slight roll should correct that.

    2. Issue 2: I am aware of this issue, and I wish I could fix it. I was using stock engines, as I’m on mobile and have no idea how to modify engines to have higher thrust, so that issue might be very prevalent in my builds. As for the COM and COL issues, it’s supposed to be a very maneuverable craft, hence them being so close together. I fly on high physics, and I’ve had no issues with it. That being said, it can be unstable at high speeds if you put too much control input in, but that was outlined in the notes.

Anywho, I hope that you enjoy the build! And I wish you best of luck in the contest!

Good build, but I caught a couple of (minor) issues:
    1. Your plane autorolls to the right. You might want to compensate com.
    2. Engines are severely underpowered for the weight of the build and the com and col are basically overlapping.

@HarryBen47 ok, thanks. Also, if it’s not too much to ask, could you also put the nickname for it on the challenge near the entry number? Thanks so much.

@HarryBen47 all loadouts added, but if it’s okay I’m going to keep the standard as the stealth air-to-ground, as that’s what I originally designed it for, and I would have to reupload everything to make the primary air to air. Anyway, hope this fixes all the issues!

@Thelegitpilot13 don't forget the other weapon configurations:

    • You should post different weapon configuration, post the primary weapon configuration public and the other configurations unlisted and give the link of other weapon configuration in the description of your main entryEx: stealthy air-to-air(main configuration);stealthy air-to-ground; unstealthy air-to-air;recon and so on.....(others configurations)
