Auto Credit Based on Allstar's Cold War Challenge

The Hornet was was a piston engine fighter that further exploited the wooden construction techniques pioneered by de Havilland's earlier Mosquito. The plane came in late during WWII and so did most of it's service after the war with the Royal Air Force, until it was retired in 1955. This was known as the fastest wooden aircraft built (I stand corrected by PlanesOfOld, the Heinkel He 162 salamander was made mostly of wood and was much faster, however, it used a jet engine) and as the second fastest operational twin-prop driven aircraft, being able to reach about 472 mph in production aircraft(almost the same as mine). To take off in this, press 1 to detach from the gates, then throttle to 100% before bringing the VTOL slider down to the 1/4 mark. Have fun, don't forget to rate and comment, and also check out Allstarship's challenge by clicking on the predecessor below.

also @A5mod3us I basically had to put external fuel tanks because this thing is running off of 5 VTOL engines, four of which are outside anyways

thanks @A5mod3us for your feedback. I attempted to make the speed right, then I concentrated on just making the plane fly. The CoL was so far forward, it wouldn't fly at all for a while, but I eventually got it to fly, and I was happy with the way it flew, so I left it like that :). I really do appreciate your feedback though, I will attempt to make my next aircraft fly more realistically

Aesthetically this is a really cool plane. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the dependence on external fuel, and the weird control scheme you have set up for it. I'm pretty sure the original couldn't do back flips, and while this game isn't necessarily intended to be a realistic simulator, I prefer replica planes to fly more like their real-life counterparts. But I was able to achieve this just by locking the VTOL nozzles on the sides of the nacelles, and shortening the elevators just a tad. After that, she flew like a dream :D Summary- Overall well designed, just needed control tweaks.

@hypnotoad do you want to enter my challenge? you have to build a land speed record car following some rules to make people think about weight and drag I think you could possibly win the best looking car prize yoyr stuff is amazing like it's straight from a sci fi movie! I am supprised I haven't Realy noticed you that mutch lol :)

@ElijtheGeat Nope I was right although the He162 was mostly made of wood (airframe struts wings exetra exetra) it had a very thin sheet of metal covering the fuselage would this count? Has the hornet Got a wooden covered fuselage?

One tiny thing and just pointing out this was not the fastest wooden aircraft ever built the Heinekel He 162 salamander jet plane was made mostly from wood it was one of the nazi wonder weapons reaching speeds near to 690mph but like most wonder weapons came too late to have any effect on the outcome of ww2 :) Ahhh Wikipedia I couldn't live without you!
