A new Aircraft for the 21st century!

Near the ending of production of the CPA-1 in 1988, Aeroflot turned to Tupolev for an answer. They needed a modernization aircraft for (by the time) a nearly 20-year old aircraft, for smaller regional flights and smaller airports.

Tupolev's answer was the Canary+. Being a larger variant of the CPA-1, with more safety and maitenance equipment, aswell as a better engine and some pieces took from the CPA-2.

Powerplant and safety

For that engine and additional electronics, they had to install two additional batteries in the rear compartment, behind the seats. Along with those, they introduced a fire extinguisher easily accessible.

Testing and service

The project was put into tests in 1990, a decade before the CPA-1 ended production. It was regarded as a wide success and was quickly pressed into service, with over 150 stock CPA-1s being converted into the Canary+.

The Canary+ saw extensive service with Aeroflot and many foreign and national airlines. Many Canaries still serve their airlines, although in a smaller number. The lack of parts since the recent world events has put them mostly on hold, and with a successor having already arrived; though in a single seater configuration, has started leaving the Canary+ in the dust.

Everything aside though, this aircraft includes several improvements over the CPA-1 including:

  • A fully modelled engine

  • A fire extinguisher (doesn't work though)

  • A working clock

  • A custom livery

  • Many things in the back part of the aircraft

  • Compeletly new canopy

  • New rudder pedals

  • Cockpit lights

  • Outside warning labels

  • An airport list for the co-pilot

  • A VR compatible interior

All of this was made possible by MrCopty, the original creator and my best friend, who allowed me to take some pieces from the CPA-2
