Yeah, i saw drawing of it both ways (here a lower mount version... http://www.the-blueprints.com/blueprints/misc/other/64358/view/csshunley1863-1864_%5Bsubmarine%5D/). I couldnt decide which looked better, i had both. :) @Irobert55
sorry one single design fail: the bomb from the hunley sits on the upper side of the vessel. just like a lance.
