Background

September 1981
WRNS Queen of the Ocean
Operation Golden Circle
The first combat Sortie of the Winolian navy after the collapse of the ‘60s. The desire for a strong fleet air arm saw the resurgence of the pre-’60s aircraft carrier, Queen of the Ocean. Once the flagship of the Winolian Royal naval service, she was now the only operational carrier the government had left. Aboard its flat top lay the dreams of a hundred engineers and a hundred aviators.
Taxing up to the steam catapult after final checks and evaluation and loaded with guided bombs, Captain Killi Sercho pilots the new Goshawk fighter and prepares to launch into the air. His wingmen wait patiently behind for their turn on the lone catapult launcher. Moments later the engines roar, the go sign is given and the catapult is released, flinging him into the air at almost 200 miles per hour. He accelerates to the muster point. The air war begins.
The A-13 Goshawk was the first real attempt by Winolian to recover their aerial capabilities after the nations collapse under its short-lived communist government. It represented a breakthrough for the Winolian military industrial complex and paved the way for local aviation companies to flourish.

Goshawks are well rounded multirole fighters and are most famous for providing the Winolian navy with a single platform at a time when their funding was incapable of keeping up with the Heavy-Medium-Light doctrine. It was designed with the Aircraft carrier “Pride of the Ocean” in mind; a 40,000-ton displacement relic with an old steam catapult. Composites were extensively used and short lifespan, high power engines were required to launch the aircraft with full mission loads. Still, it was a start.
The current Goshawk, the Goshawk Spectre, is an excellent platform with none of its issues from the ‘80s present in the airframe anymore. Whereas the original airframe was, at best, a point defence fighter with limited strike capabilities, the current model is a long-range, a supersonic multirole fighter capable of conducting any mission conceivable from the deck of a Winolian carrier. Its avionics are first-rate and it features all the trimmings of a modern Winolian fighter. It even carries a missile specifically built to take advantage of its capabilities. The HiT-50 ALCM.
