The CF-29B Snow Leopard is the twin-seat companion to the CF-29A, built as a conversion-trainer and light multirole strike platform under the Canadair–Starcrest partnership. Sharing the CF-29’s basic airframe and Arctic-hardened systems, the B adds a second cockpit for instructor/pilot pairs, beefed-up avionics for weapons training, and extra wiring and hardpoints to carry a broad ordnance mix — from classic air-to-surface loads like Mighty Mouse FFARs, Mk.82 Snakeye bombs, and Starcrest’s own SUGO-M1 / SUGO-L1 unguided munitions, to a range of allied American and Starcrest smart stores. Designed to turn rookies into interceptor and strike pilots, the CF-29B also performs secondary roles as a maritime-patrol/light-strike workhorse: longer endurance (thanks to auxiliary tanks), simplified instructor consoles for live-weapon passoffs, and a mission computer that can emulate both A- and B-variant tactics — making it the Swiss army knife of the early Leopard family.
