The Mitsubishi U1M "Raiko" (??, meaning "Thunderlight") was developed by the Imperial Japanese Navy as a multi-role aircraft capable of air-to-air combat, ground attack, and anti-ship missions. It was designed to directly compete with the American SB2C Helldiver, a similarly versatile dive bomber and attacker.
