THK-16 "Mehmetçik" was an aircraft designed by THK (Türk Hava Kurumu / Turkish Aeronautical Association) in Turkey in the early 1950s to provide the Turkish Air Force with a domestically designed and built jet trainer.

THK-16 was to have been a conventional, mid-wing two-crewed tandem seater design. The aircraft would have been powered by two small turbojet engines in underwing nacelles.Design work was completed in 1952, and the design was selected as one of the THK designs that worth continuing. But coincidentally (!) the US offered Turkey Lockheed P-33 Star jet trainers (unsurprisingly, for a cheaper price). Turkish Air Force purchased P-33s and the local design abandoned.

This is the first version of the plane, and I am planning to improve it's flight characteristics significantly. Have a good flight!

*As a note, the name "Mehmetçik" is used in Turkish to refer informally to an archetypal or generic Turkish soldier, analogous to the British "Tommy", American "G.I.", or French "Poilu".
