Kabe-class Pre-Dreadnought

YIK Kabe is the lead ship of her class of five pre-dreadnought battleships built by the Grand Duchy Navy (GDN) in 1825. She is a response to Republic of Crafitanya's Republic class pre-dreadnoughts built two years earlier.

She is the first pre-dreadnought of the Grand Navy upon commissioning.

History

Upon commissioning of CRS Republic of the Crafitanyan Navy, the Royal Government quickly responded with demands to the Velyke Admiralteystvo to make a warship that is able to counter Republic. At the same time, they also wanted to strengthen their navy after their victory in the 1st War of Coalitions which they believe that it will never end. They became cautious and begun reconstructing their navy. After many alternations with the design, the first concept was approved for construction and the first keel was laid down in 1823.

Construction and Career

Kabe, named after Kabe Skhidnoyi provintsiyi, was laid down by Korolivs'ki verfi in one of their shipyards in 1823. Hertsohynya Oleksandriya, the wife of the Duke of Grand Duchy, served as Kabe's sponsor. She was launched in 1824 and was completed the same year. She sailed first to Arkhanhel's'kyy port where she was commissioned and was commanded by Captain(later Admiral) Karter-Vil'yams.

The 2nd Great War of Coalitions

Upon learning of the surprise invasion of Imperial South Grim against the Republic of Crafitanya and Sanistan Federation. The Grand Navy quickly mobilized it's forces and sent 1st Batal'yon vidkrytoho morya which Kabe and her sister, Khershi, were assigned.
Battle of Tanya Sea
Kabe and the rest of 1st Batal'yon vidkrytoho morya sailed out of Port Wellington to reinforce the Republican Navy which sailed out 2 hours earlier to face the rumored Imperial Southern Squadron heading towards Tanya Sea. A common mistake both by the Republican Navy and the Grand Navy is that the Imperial Southern Navy diverted all of it's battleships squadrons towards Tanya Sea. The Imperial Southern Fleet, with a force eleven battleships, nine armoured cruisers and fifteen destroyers faced the Republican Navy alone. The Republican Navy, which has a force of five battleships, eight armoured cruisers and seven destroyes, that was sent 2 hours earlier were left with only two battleships, four armoured cruisers, and a destroyer. The Republican Navy failed to radio the Grand Navy which led to Grand Navy facing the same Imperial Naval force. Kabe led the charge with her firing the first shot, she was then followed by her sister. She was targeted however by four battleships which damaged her badly. Within 30 minutes in action, Kabe lost her A turret and several of her secondary armament. Receiving heavy casualties, the Admiral ordered a retreat. Kabe was badly damage in the battle but manage to reach Port Wellington for repairs, alongside seven vessels that were able to retreat. Her sister however was less fortunate as she was sunk by gunfire during the retreat.

Battle of Arthur Islands
After the devastating loss of both the Republican Navy and the Grand Navy in the previous battle, the two decided to remain defensive until the Grand Navy reinforcement arrives (which composed of Kabe's sisters). After tipping that the Imperial Southern Fleet will invade the Arthur Islands, the two navies combined their fleet with the remaining of their forces to defend the Islands. Kabe was sailing behind Republic, behind her were armoured cruisers Misyats', Iofi and Samuel Lamb. The three fleets begin to clash, the superior numerical advantage quickly deceive the outnumbered combined fleet. 20 minutes into the fight, Kabe found herself targeted by seven battleships after Republic sunk 5 minutes earlier due to gunfire. Her captain immediately ordered a retreat but one of the shells struck her machinery downing her speed to 6 knots. With hopes lost, the captain ordered an abandon ship. 200 men died during the battle including her captain. Kabe sunk 8 minutes after the order to abandon the ship was given. Later on, Iofi was torpedoed and sunk 11 minutes after.
