yo sup guys ty all for 2k and we got a f-111 aardvark btw ne realstic engine lets go and heres some histroy about it(btw special thanks to sctheon/kai)
F-111 Aardvark:
Program origin:
• Born from the U.S. Department of Defense TFX (Tactical Fighter Experimental) program in the late 1950s / early 1960s to produce a supersonic, long-range strike fighter for both the Air Force and Navy (the Navy version was later cancelled).
• Designed and built by General Dynamics (Fort Worth).
First flight & introduction:
• First flight: 1964 (prototype test flights began in the mid-1960s).
• Entered service (USAF): 1967.
Role and key features:
• Primary role: Tactical strike / interdiction — long-range, low-level penetration and deep-strike missions.
• Distinctive features:
• Variable-sweep (swing) wings — allowed efficient subsonic cruise and stable supersonic flight.
• Terrain-following radar for low-level, high-speed strikes in bad weather/night.
• Two-person crew (pilot + weapon systems officer).
• Powerful turbofan engines (Pratt & Whitney TF30 on early models).
• Capable of supersonic dash (high-altitude top speeds around Mach ~2+ in many variants).
Operational history (highlights):
• Vietnam War: Early combat use began in the late 1960s for night/long-range strike missions.
• 1986 Libya (Operation El Dorado Canyon): F-111Fs were used in precision strikes.
• 1991 Gulf War: F-111s flew deep-strike and precision bombing missions.
• Royal Australian Air Force: Australia purchased F-111s (the F-111C variant); RAAF used them as their long-range strike platform for decades.
Retirement & legacy:
• USAF retirement: USAF F-111 fleet retired in the mid-1990s (officially 1996).
• RAAF retirement: Australian F-111s retired in 2010.
• The F-111 left a legacy as a pioneering swing-wing strike platform: influential for low-level supersonic strike doctrine and for introducing advanced integrated avionics and terrain-following capability. It was unusual, ambitious, and technically ground-breaking for its era.
Variants (not exhaustive):
• F-111A — initial USAF production fighter/strike version.
• F-111F — improved avionics/engines; the most combat-used variant.
• F-111C — Australian variant (longer fuselage + different wing).
• FB-111A — strategic bomber variant for Strategic Air Command.
• EF-111A Raven — electronic warfare/jamming variant.
