The CF-29C Snow Leopard was an advanced modernization of the original Starcrest–Canadair CF-29A, developed in 1994 by Avro Canada under license from Starcrest United. Created to replace Canada’s aging interceptor fleet after Canadair’s 1985 collapse, the CF-29C introduced sweeping upgrades that transformed the Snow Leopard into a modern air-defense platform. It featured an avionics bump housing advanced radar and targeting systems, an auxiliary power unit (APU) for independent startup and ground operation, and compatibility with both Western and Starcrest munitions. Its expanded arsenal included AIM-120 AMRAAMs, AIM-132 ASRAAMs, as well as Starcrest’s SCATRAM NEO and SATA-76 Patriot missiles. Designed for endurance and rapid interception, the CF-29C extended the Snow Leopard’s operational life by decades and symbolized the enduring legacy of Canada’s aerospace collaboration with Starcrest United.
