PX-3A Hammerfall

An oddity among oddities was the best way to describe the Soviet entry into the PX program. The Hammerfall's seemingly "conventional" design made field repairs to the plane much simpler in comparison to it's US and British counterparts and belied the technology hidden within. On it's underbelly there are two large ports. Originally thought to be oversized exhaust ports for the piston engine they were actually the business end of a predecessor to the jet engine known as a "motor jet." A second driveshaft from the piston engine powered a compressor that in-turn pulled in air, mixed it with fuel, and ignited it. As a result the aircraft's speed was boosted from a scant 420mph, to over 530mph. Making it both the slowest and fastest of the PX planes.

Like the Wingblade the inspiration for this plane came from an idea I had for a comic. I wanted to test to see if the design I came up with on paper might work in real life. Press 1 to activate the jet engines. Airbrakes are operated through the VTOL controls.
