hello guys doctor nowhere is here and we got a new banger yay and its the BRRRRTTTT anyways heres some history about it:
A-10C Thunderbolt II – History
The A-10 Thunderbolt II, often called the “Warthog,” was developed by Fairchild Republic in the early 1970s after the U.S. Air Force realized it needed a dedicated aircraft for close air support (CAS) — something tough, slow enough to aim accurately, and able to destroy tanks.
A-10A Origins (1975–2000s)
• First flight was in 1972, and it entered service in 1977.
• Designed around the GAU-8/A Avenger, the massive 30 mm cannon made specifically to kill Soviet tanks.
• Built tough: titanium armor “bathtub,” redundant controls, can fly with half a wing or one engine.
• Became famous in the Gulf War (1991) for destroying thousands of Iraqi vehicles and saving ground troops many times.
Modern Upgrade – A-10C
The A-10C is the upgraded digital version introduced in the mid-2000s.
It turned the old-school A-10A into a modern precision strike aircraft.
The upgrade included:
• New glass cockpit (digital screens instead of analog)
• Helmet-mounted targeting
• Full precision weapon capability (GBU-38, JDAMs, laser-guided bombs, Mavericks, etc.)
• Improved communication and data-link systems
The A-10C became more accurate, more efficient, and better suited for modern warfare.
Combat Use
The A-10C has been heavily used in:
• Iraq War (2003–2011)
• War in Afghanistan
• Anti-ISIS operations
• Numerous NATO missions
It’s known for:
• Surviving crazy battle damage
• Saving infantry by destroying tanks, bunkers, and convoys
• Delivering extremely accurate air support
Today
Even though the Air Force tried to retire it many times, the A-10C remains in limited service because:
• It’s cheap to operate
• Extremely accurate
• Loved by ground troops
• Hard to replace in its role
It’s expected to remain in service until around the early 2030s.
