Space: 1999 - War Eagle

Trim UP - Vertical thrusters, necessary not only during take-off but also during flight (there are no wings)

Thrust - Engines for horizontal movement

VTOL UP - Deployment of weapons panels.

The other controls are standard. Compatible with the automatic flight system.

Available weapons - 4 Guardian + 4 Interceptor + 2 Cleaver + laser machine gun.

Given the success of my Eagle Transporter I decided to develop an armed version for combat. I tried to remain in the Gerry Anderson Style, but this "weapon module" is absolutelly not a reproduction. I think there was not a specific weapons module, but this one for me "seem" in the right mood. Pushing VTOL up the module is deployed like a lethal metallic origami, and it's a bit hipnotic.

The module can be opened on the ground if you want, but must be closed once in flight to avoid any risk.

Taking advantage of the work on this, I decided to correct those that were in my opinion the main limitations of the previous version.

Poor handling - This is certainly not an acrobatic plane, but a turn certainly makes less space and less time.

Difference in behavior with and without load module - In this version it was even more pronounced. If the ship was balanced with the closed weapons module, once it opened it became excessively tail heavy and uncontrollable. If balanced to an open form, it becomes nose heavy and it must be constantly pitch up. I completely redesigned the propulsion system. Now there are two main engines (the four rear engines were fake before and remained fake) instead of just one, and they are connected with rotors that move together with the gun panels. When the panels are unfolded, the motors are angled just enough to compensate for the reversal torque.

Poor speed - This version is one and a half times faster.

Minor visual improvements (Like a missing section in backbone)

I'll have to try that. I did manage to land on the Beast first try. I even got to land on the helipad of one of the destroyers.I wouldn't let me missile the beast from the deck, though. I wonder how the 3D export would come out. It would look nice on my desk. I love this !

@atgxtg You can cut orizontal thrust, then give some brutal pitch up using the vertical jets as brakes. It's the same thing that helicopters does (and is how I brake with this).

Not a complaint about the Eagle, just my piloting. I'm having trouble matching speed with ships when coming in for a landing,

@atgxtg Mmmm.... this is a nice idea. I keep it for the next version. Thanks

Yeah. but that makes sense. Wings won't provide any lift in space or on the moon. I've certainly flown a lot of airplanes in SP that handle much worse at low speeds (most of them mine). Congrats! I just wish there was a way to hide a retro rocket or two on the thing for braking.

@atgxtg If you give enought thrust on main engines, and give some degrees nose up, you fly like a missile flies, for sure. :) But if you try to fly slowly, like 10% thrust... you cant avoid the vertical lifter.

Correction. It handles fantastic! You don't really need the VTOL to lift off or fly anymore. And the suspension on the landing gear seems stronger.

    Yea! It does handle better.
