L-188 Electra Reeve Aleutian

16.7k Walrus001  9 months ago

L-188 Electra. With the dawn of the jet age Lockheed was unsure about how the future of jet propulsion would take the industry so a turboprop design was selected. While seeing a lot of initial interest the Electra had a troubled start. The high wing loading and a lot of lift generated from prop was lead to some interesting handling characteristics. Despite some issues the Electra has aged well outliving most designs from its era still being used primarily in Canada till this day. The Electra was the basis for the more successful P3 Orion.
