Flight 801 of Korean Air (KE801, KAL801) is a scheduled international passenger flight operated by Korean Air, from Gimpo International Airport, Seoul to Antonio B International Airport. On August 6, 1997, the Boeing 747-300 operating flight crashed on the top of Bijia, south of Nimitz Hill, in Asan-Maina, Guam, while approaching the destination airport, killing 229 [ a ] of the 254 people on board, [ 3 ] making this the deadliest aviation accident that has occurred in the dependent territory of the United States and the fourth fatal aviation accident on US soil in general, excluding terrorism.
