Can I give you a tip?
For smoke you can make a simple structure.
Connect a flare to a fuselage's back. Then connect a hollow fuselage to other fuselage's back over the flare. Then connect another fuselage to hollow one. In this structure flare should be inside of fuselages. Then connect it to your plane.
When you launch a flare while moving it will look better.
