Auto Credit Based on spDraco's F16-block C
Though the F-15E ended up taking the W for the USAFs enhanced fighter competition, the F16XL, also participated, and performed better overall. The reason that the F-15E won however, is because it was cheaper for the USAF to modify existing F-15 into F-15Es, than it would be for them to modify the airframe of the existing Falcons. The airframe modifications enabled the XL to be faster, have longer range, fly higher, and carry double the ordinance of the legendary F16.
