What is Chrono Aviation?

Chrono Aviation Inc., and its wholly owned subsidiary Chrono Jet Inc., is a charter airline headquartered at Jean Lesage International Airport in Quebec City. It operates aircraft in passenger, cargo and combination roles. It has bases at Montreal's Saint-Hubert Longueuil Airport, Quebec City's Jean Lesage International Airport, and Rimouski Aerodrome. It has more than 265 employees.

History:

Chrono Aviation was founded in 2012 by Vincent Gagnon and Dany Gagnon with a single Pilatus PC-12 and two pilots. [9] Later that same year, the company purchased its second aircraft. [10]

In 2014, the company acquired its first Beechcraft 1900D.

In 2016, they obtained the authority to conduct Canadian Aviation Regulations Part 705 operations with more than 37 passengers, allowing the operation of their first Dash 8-100 in 2017. The airline immediately upgraded the Dash 8 with all-new avionics worth 1.5 million dollars and the cabin. It was also updated with 3D terrain view. [10]

In 2018, the company introduced its first Boeing 737-200 passenger aircraft and shortly after introduced a second. [11] These aircraft can carry passengers or various combinations of passengers and cargo, and can operate to and from unpaved gravel runways. [12]

The company briefly operated a Dassault Falcon 50EX from 2017 to 2020 and a Citation CJ4 from 2019 to 2020.

In 2019, Chrono Aviation and Arctic Co-operatives Limited (ACL) announced the award of a contract to Baffinland Iron Mines Corp for the provision of air transportation services. [13] Chrono Aviation was to operate three to five flights per week from its base at Montreal's Saint-Hubert Longueuil Airport. [14] In October 2019, the company announced the groundbreaking of its 66,000-square-foot hangar project under construction at Montreal's Saint-Hubert Longueuil Airport supporting the ACL contract. [15] [13] That same year, the airline also equipped its aircraft with SKYTRAC's ISAT-200A SATCOM terminals for real-time flight tracking, voice communications, and weather tracking capabilities. Operating on the Iridium Communications network, this system allows the airline to track each flight, send weather data and remain in direct communication with the flight crew.

In 2020, Chrono Aviation was ranked 213th out of 400 of the fastest growing companies in Canada according to a report published by The Globe and Mail. [17] In 2021, Chrono Aviation was recognized again and ranked 167 out of 400 of the fastest growing companies in Canada. [18]

Chrono Aviation had previously announced that it had added a Boeing 737-800, formerly owned by Air Transat, to its fleet. [19] However, on July 6, 2021, Chrono Jet decommissioned the aircraft. [20] On December 7, 2021, Chrono Aviation announced that it would begin dedicated cargo operations using a Boeing 737-800SF beginning in January 2022. Chrono will be the first such operator in Canada. [21] In fall 2021, the airline also began utilizing its new 66,000-square-foot state-of-the-art hangar.
