Finnish DC Jets!
About The Aircraft
Finnair is the flag carrier of Finland and one of the oldest operational airlines in the world, being founded in 1923. Throughout the years, the Helsinki-based airline has operated over 50 DC-9 family aircraft, including original DC-9s and MD-80s. The first of Its fleet of 12 DC-9-51s arrived at the airline as early as 1976 and were all retired by late 2003.
This aircraft, OH-LYY, was a DC-9-51 originally delivered to Finnair in March, 1981. It was configured with 122 economy seats in a 3-2 layout and served with Finnair until 2003. The aircraft then made its way to Tikal Jets in Guatemala as TG-ALE, before being withdrawn from service in 2006 and finally scrapped in 2009.

Fuel and Payload Configuration:
The aircraft is configured by default with ~95% fuel load and with 25,000 lbs (11,340 kg) of payload, equivalent to ~120 passengers with baggage. In this configuration, the aircraft can perform a flight of up to 1,100 nmi (2,040 km). See the image below for the parts to modify if changing the weight or fuel load. The fuel mass is scaled down by 4x to match real-life fuel burn.
About The Project
This is the first of 3 DC-9s I plan to make as a continuation of my Boeing 717 project, the others being the -40 and -30 variants. The 717 actually has (basically) the same wing as the original DC-9 series, hence why I chose to make replicas of these older aircraft rather than a Super-80 or MD-90. It’s been interesting finding reference imagery for aircraft that last flew decades ago, and I hope y’all enjoy a little jet-blast from the past with these retro airliners.

@TheAvgeekNextDoor yeah, they're my favorite too!
I love the dc-9 and md-80 series of airliners.
@LM0418 thanks, how could I improve it?
1400+ 💀
The aerodynamics could be better, but the overall look is amazing.
