The Crane Fly is the largest aircraft belonging to a faction known as Fortia. This faction has built up an empire that covers a sizable amount of the South-Eastern portion of the former USA.
They consist of a highly stratified, authoritarian society that ideologically is strongly infused in social darwinism. Notably they practice slavery, with the enslaved being mostly war captured or snatched in raids into areas without large-scale organization.
These slaves, as this configuration shows, often are used not just in the usual tasks, but even as replacement for higher technology: Here, the Crane Fly acts as a "Beehive" mothership that carries smaller kamikaze airplanes known as "Bees". These are usually flown as substitute to PGMs against tactical and strategic targets alike. To ensure loyalty, the pilots are picked from specific sources:
1: participants from failed rebellions or otherwise convicted of revolt (such as by trying or successfully murdering their owners), for whom their reward is that their bloodlines aren't wiped out as collective punishment.
2: Convicted slaves that have been sentenced to death for crimes lesser than rebellion, but otherwise have had a good report and are offered the chance to participate in a suicide attack to clean this mark against their families.
3: Disabled slaves of high standing who are otherwise incapable of useful work. Similarly to the second case, their relatives are also rewarded for this, sometimes being the push that allows a slave to be manumitted.

The Crane Fly itself also sees use as a transport aircraft, carrying pods under the fuselage, or bombs. In this last task, it's mostly used to attack large settlements beyond the border to break them up, both to prevent large-scale organization from occurring and to soften them up for ground raids.
While originally, this aircraft entered service after all nearby potential air threats had been defeated, they're now provided with rudimentary defensive guns after reports started coming of bombers that returned with battle damage from rounds inconsistent with anti-aircraft guns.

Controls:
1-5: Detach kamikazes.
6, 7: Activate defensive guns (6 for rear, 7 for front).
8: Toggle gyroscope and engine throttle.
