It was designed, developed and manufactured on a large scale in Brazil, starting in the 1980s, by Embraer, which used the twin-engine turboprop for executory use as the basis for its creation and development.
In April 1980, the manufacturer launched the EMB 120 project, the number of orders for which quickly exceeded the 100 unit mark. Its first flight took place on July 29, 1983.
