Lockheed P-38J Lightning

29.9k ChiChiWerx  8.0 years ago

Mobile friendly, completely stock and flies like the real thing! The P-38 Lightning was the first fighter capable of 400 mph in level flight and served primarily with the US Army Air Forces in the Pacific theater during WWII against the Japanese. It was built in the thousands and was the mount of America's Ace of Aces, Major Richard Bong (40 kills) and Major Thomas McGuire (38 kills). Like the real thing, this one has 5 guns in the nose and can fly faster than 400 mph--just be sure to drop the external tanks (Action Group 1) to fly faster--just like the real thing. Use trim (VTOL 1/2 way down) for takeoff and VTOL all he way down to land. Fly landing approach at 165 mph (about 10%). Feedback in comments please, enjoy, upvote if you approve and fly safe!

@Sunnyskies no worries, I remembered that we talked when I posted this one awhile ago.

Again, great work. Don't know how I missed it when I upvoted it before lol.

@ChiChiWerx I just opened up an XML file, and looked for things that looked like they could be changed. I toyed around with them to see what I could do. Basically trial and error lol.
For example, on most parts, there is a property called "scale", which defaults to 1,1,1 which are its scale multipliers in its XYZ axis. Set those values to 2,2,2 and the part is now twice its normal size. I'm also pretty sure most modded values are invisible at first, so you have to write them in yourself.

Boy, I wish I could figure out XML modding, how did you learn?

@ChiChiWerx I'm actually only eagle-eyed on P-38s. The Lightning is my all-time favorite plane, so I know almost everything about it. Anyway, for stock parts, the scale is perfect. I had to rely on XML tweaking to make mine look so nice.

Yes, all my work is downsized probably to 2/3 scale as I'm a bit restricted by the size of certain parts (engines primarily), but I think that's not very noticeable, only by eagle-eyed observers such as yourself!

Very nice! You got the shape down pretty well. It's downscaled a bit, but I'm really the only person who care about that lol. (my P-38 is close to 1:1)
