Ex-3 Hawk (Fail)

384 FltLtFox  6.5 years ago

The 'Hawk' was a mid-late WWI experimental aircraft testing a new design of [Fire Stone] [Magic] engine, a radial engine. Outputting 400 hp, it seemed promising, but the initial set up proved to have too much drag, and the wings were too small to achieve lift without constantly pulling back on the stick. Which also meant the aircraft couldn't dogfight. They made the wings longer and larger, and it began to somewhat fly, but still had too much drag. So the cowling was removed in the hopes of aleivating the drag problem. It sort of fixed it. The airplane still had problems with taking off and flying, and in mock dogfights, proved to be extremely unstable. The only good thing it had going for it was how easy it was to land. () If anyone wants to fiddle with this and get it to fly properly, go right ahead!
