Description
The TPC. Dynamics XAV-17A 'Basilisk' Is an Australian contra-rotating propeller attack aircraft designed in 1972. The Basilisk was put into service in 1974 and proved to be useful in ground attack, and was capable of aerial superiority once modifications were made to the aircraft. TPC. Dynamics Australia shortly after putting the Basilisk into service began advertising the aircraft in hopes of selling models of it to other countries. The aircraft had many potential buyers and was shortly exported to countries such as Japan, Vietnam, India, and Egypt, amongst others.
Variants
XAV-17B: This variant will be the better ground attack variant of the XAV-17A and will have a second horizontal stabilizer below the original one to increase survivability and would increase maximum payload capacity. (A 30mm cannon may be put onto the XAV-17B aswell.)
XAV-17C: This variant will be the aerial superiority version of the XAV-17A and will incorporate a stronger turboprop engine as well as many improvements in wing shape and overall structure of the aircraft.
XAV-17D/N: Lastly, this variant will be the naval variant of the XAV-17A and will use a better engine like the one on the C variant, but will also make use of torpedoes and other Anti-ship ordinance. The D/N Variant will also use folding wings to save space while being stored on aircraft carriers.
Armament:
- Three GBU-12 'Paveway II' Guided bombs
- Four AGM-65 'Maverick' ATGM's
- Four AGM-114 'Hellfire' ATGMS's
- Two AIM-9L Fox 2 AAM's
- Two 25mm Autocannons
- 400 Flares & 700 Chaff
Controls
- VTOL: Prop Pitch
- AG1: Drop AAM's
- AG2: Drop Ground Munitions
- AG3: Airbrakes
- AG4: Deactivate Canard Control
- AG5: Activate Targeting
- AG6: Lights
- AG7: Master Arm
- AG8: Engine
