F-8 PI'I PAHOA (Two Stage Anti-Ship Missile)

675 LinearAerospike  2.9 years ago

Background

The airframe is nothing special (just a PI'I without a detailed cockpit), but the weapon is. The SR-G7 "PAHOA" missile is a two stage Anti-Ship missile.

The PAHOA is attached to the underside of the PI'I via the pylon (made of a fuselage). You can only have one at a time (well, you can have more if you know the order of fire, and are willing to put in some work to edit the FT), and don't rename the weapon (cause that’s how it detects a “launch”).

Controls

Activate 1: Enable VTOL (open main engine fairing, lift fan doors, and enable main engine gimbal, VTOL down to swivel engines)
Activate 3: Enable afterburner (above 90% throttle, doesn't activate when VTOL-ing)
Activate 6: Enable weapons
Activate 7: Enable thrust reverser

Notes

Using the missile: Because the first portion of flight is unguided, it works best when fired from further than 4 miles away from the target (and because its unguided, try to fire the missile directly at or a little above the target). After a 5 second boost phase, the booster will detach and the second stage will light up. At this point, active guidance will begin. Both stages are powered by a "capitve" rocket (basically connect the rocket to a detacher and a structural part so the rocket stays connected to the body but still lights when the detacher is activated), with the jet engine having negative (I think) thrust to limit the speed and stop the missile from destroying itself. I could just use jet engines, but it wouldn’t make the cool smoke effect.

How to fly the PI'I: Refer to my publicly released PI'I (Or just don't VTOL)

Sorry if the colored bands on the missile in the pictures don’t match the actual missile band colors on the build (I used black bands for testing and red/yellow for functional weapons)

Fun fact: “Pahoa” in Hawaiian means “dagger”, just as “Kinzhal” means “dagger” in Russian. I know that the Kinzhal is ballistic, whereas the Pahoa has terminal guidance, but I was heavily influenced by its design...

One more thing: Credit to Suica for his/her (sorry IDK) McDonnell Douglas JSF and its LJDAM bomb. The “zero thrust” missile guidance system is genius.

Enjoy!

@LinearAerospike all good, feel free to join anyway. You're definitely better than the bronze rank you currently have. I look forward to seeing what you make in the future

@FarrowTECH This is actually a really old plane. I started it a couple (3-4) months back (It took a while to get the Hover Autopilot and cockpit to work), so I don’t feel like its fair to submit it. Also, this build is more about the missile than the fighter itself. But thank you for the upvote!

This would've been a good entry into my canard challenge, if you want you can toss it in as a successor. since it's relatively new Ill qualify it as a valid entry
