Sukhoi Su-57

The Sukhoi Su-57 is Russia’s first fifth-generation stealth fighter, developed by the Sukhoi Design Bureau. Work began in the early 2000s under the PAK FA (Prospective Airborne Complex of Frontline Aviation) program, with the goal of creating a rival to the U.S. F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II.

The first prototype, known as the T-50, made its maiden flight in 2010. After years of testing and development, the aircraft was officially named Su-57 in 2017. The jet combines stealth shaping, advanced avionics, and high maneuverability. It’s designed for air superiority and strike missions, with features like internal weapon bays, supercruise capability, and eventually thrust-vectoring engines (the “Izdeliye 30” engines, still being refined).

The Su-57 entered limited service with the Russian Air Force in the early 2020s, and production continues at the Komsomolsk-on-Amur plant. It remains Russia’s most advanced fighter, intended to replace older Su-27 and MiG-29 designs, while complementing aircraft like the Su-35.
