Republic F-84F Thunderstreak
"Beta version" designation: XF-96
The Republic F-84F Thunderstreak was the swept-wing development of the straight-wing F-84 Thunderjet family, built as a Cold-War era single-seat fighter-bomber for tactical ground-attack and escort/interception duties. Its prototype first flew in 1950 and production deliveries began in the early 1950s; the type served widely with the USAF and many NATO air forces throughout the 1950s and into the 1960s. It carried six .50-caliber machineguns and could carry rockets and several thousand pounds of bombs on underwing and fuselage hardpoints, making it primarily a strike/ground-support platform rather than a pure air-superiority fighter. Republic built the majority of the airframes while other contractors also produced examples; a reconnaissance variant (RF-84F / “Thunderflash”) and several experimental conversions (notably the XF-84H 'earrape' turboprop) were also developed.
A few operational and design notes often mentioned in sources and user communities: the F-84F used a later swept wing and different engine installation than the straight-wing F-84, which improved transonic handling but came with developmental delays and engine/installation compromises compared with contemporary designs. Many were exported to NATO allies and are common subjects of Cold-War aviation writeups and flight-sim (including no other than SimplePlanes)/modelling communities.
Possible Aircraft Nicknames:
"Super Hog"/"Superhog" — a community nickname that plays off the long-running “hog/pig” nicknaming theme applied to several Republic aircraft (in the range since P-47 Thunderbolt, F-105 Thunderchief, until A-10 Thunderbolt II).
I'm so sorry there above currently is the only nickname i found and no more information about any aircraft's nicknames. But just add yours in the comments, let's discuss :)
