The A-4P Skyhawk, originally designated A-4B by Douglas, was acquired by the Argentine Air Force (Fuerza Aérea Argentina, FAA) in the 1970s and adapted to meet the country’s specific tactical requirements. Known for its rugged simplicity and agility, the A-4P became a frontline strike platform, most notably during the 1982 Falklands/Malvinas War, where it earned a reputation for daring low-level attack missions.

Powered by the Wright J65-W-20 turbojet engine, the A-4P could reach speeds of up to 670 mph (1,078 km/h) and carry up to 8,200 lbs (3,720 kg) of ordnance across five hardpoints. Its main weapons included conventional unguided bombs such as the Mk 82 and napalm canisters, making it highly effective in ground attack and anti-ship roles.

Despite limited onboard avionics and lack of air-to-air radar, the A-4P’s simplicity and the skill of its pilots allowed it to conduct high-risk missions against Royal Navy forces, often at ultra-low altitudes to evade radar and missile threats.

Key Features of the A-4P Skyhawk:

Lightweight, maneuverable airframe ideal for low-level strike missions.

Capability to deliver a wide range of conventional bombs.

Locally upgraded communications and basic avionics.

Extensively used during the Falklands War in daring anti-ship strikes.
