In 1997, Ostor decided to invest in motorsport and created the mogyorod to compete in the gt2 class. The car was developed while Ostor, the manufacturer was sponosred by a big petrol company in bankrupcy... The development budget was so low the chassis is from a pick-up truck. But somehow the engineers managed to make the best car Ostor has ever made. The regulation said it was necessary to sell a minimum of 250 cars to partecipate in the race. 200 cars were sold at the ridiculous price of just 10000€, it had no sense because to make one costs almost 5 times more. Ostor was sure they could win and make much more money after, with the potential sponsors. But 50 more cars have to be sold and no one wants them, so Ostor gifted'em to random people in Hungary while making it look like they bought'em. Even a farmer received one... The first race of the championship took place at the Hungaroring where the Mogyorod was developed. The car was a huge success, 2 mogyorod evolutions partecipated the race finished 1° and 2°, surprising everyone. Before the second race in Italy, the race organization found out what happened with the 50 remaining cars and banned the mogyorod from the championship
