The E-4 saw the introduction of the 20mm Mg-FF/M cannons which supported Minnengeschloss. Although it was not the first variant to use 20mm cannons, E-3 was the first in production whilst prototype existed much earlier. Moreover, E-4 had a cockpit change to the more distinct blocky ones that would remain until the G variant.
