Mikoyan MiG‑41 Family

The Mikoyan MiG‑41 is a proposed Russian family of heavy, twin‑engine combat aircraft developed under studies associated with the PAK DP (Perspektivnyy Aviatsionnyy Kompleks Dal’nego Perekhvata) program. The family was conceived as a successor to the MiG‑31 “Foxhound”, combining long‑range interception, high‑altitude performance, and reduced observability.

The MiG‑41 family consists of two principal variants:
the MiG‑41E “Polyarnyy Bars”, a stealth‑optimized long‑range interceptor, and the MiG‑41M “Seryy Bars”, a multirole derivative expanding strike and maritime capabilities

MiG‑41E «Полярный Барс»

(NATO reporting name: Glacierhound)

The MiG‑41E “Polyarnyy Bars” is the baseline stealth interceptor variant of the MiG‑41 family. It was designed as an evolutionary successor to the MiG‑31, while incorporating aerodynamic lessons from the cancelled MiG‑MFI / Project 1.44 program.

Unlike the MiG‑MFI, the MiG‑41E does not employ thrust‑vectoring, prioritizing reduced radar signature, high‑speed stability, and endurance. The aircraft features a two‑seat tandem cockpit, intended to reduce pilot workload during complex long‑range interception missions.

A defining characteristic of the MiG‑41E is its internal weapons bay, designed to carry long‑range and hypersonic air‑to‑air missiles, enabling low‑observable interception of advanced threats.
