The L-59 Albatros is an upgraded version of the Aero Vodochody L-39 TCB, launched in 1989. Its prototype, under the designation L-39MS, was tested from 1986 to 1987. The first flight of the prototype took place on September 30, 1986. It has a more powerful DV-2 turbojet engine (with 20% increased power compared to its predecessor), a reinforced fuselage, upgraded electronics including the ASP-3 NMU-39Z weapon control system, and screen displays in the cockpit. The aircraft was supplied to the Czech Air Force (adopted in 1991), Egypt (48 L-59E aircraft) and Tunisia (12 L-59T aircraft).
