The GUPPY Program: Submarine Conversion Collabs

Greater Underwater Propulsion Power (with a Y for pronouncability)

For some time I have pondered on taking some existing submarines and converting them to full function, with neutral buoyancy, functioning rudder, functioning dive planes, and ballast control. Along with other features if possible, this post will be here to detail the rules of this kind of collab, as well as what it entails.

These kinds of collabs will entail me being selective, if I like a submarine then I will be happy to help convert it to give it the full functions of the real thing, which will be listed here

  • Neutral Buoyancy: Neither sinking nor floating, allowing for smooth operation of the submarine below the waters alongside proper use of the diving planes and ballast. This is achieved using two fuselage blocks XML modded to a precise buoyancy.

  • Diving planes: Basically the same concept as elevators on airplanes. The working of which are seen in the picture above.

  • Rudder: Works like in airplanes, steering the submarine from left to right. In order to keep the nose moving with the turn, a hidden secondary 'rudder' part is installed in the front.

  • Engine: Using a 'Rotator and Wing' type of engine, allows for propulsion below the water with no need for fuel or air.

  • Ballast Control: Uses a pair of detached floating VTOL engines to power a set of attached nozzles which push the submarine up and down while acting on the neutral buoyancy. Though it's technically not ballast tanks, it serves an identical purpose of allowing the submarine to sink or float.

  • Gyroscope: Primarily for providing stability in turns and preventing the sub from being suck tilted on one side.

  • Other: I may also be willing to add new features, weapons would mainly be what I might add from Deck guns to ballistic missiles. Other features could be possible though, though they may be best added by you if you suggest them.

Rules: Read Them!

1) I will not accept all requests: This is partially a safeguard against being swamped. I only have so much time, including among other things my own things to build. As a result, I'm going to be more selective with these collabs than I am with build requests.

2) Don't be pushy please: I know it can be easy to get impatient, and I will try to update you on progress if accepted. That said, making a submarine functional takes time.

3) Don't go too crazy: I've learned a lot regarding what can be done in this game mainly through XML modding) but don't go TOO crazy with what you ask for in terms of features.

4) It will be unlisted: I mainly wanna gain my upvotes through my own works, so once it is finished you'll be given an unlisted link. There you can feel free to upload it yourself if you like.

This may be updated as needed, but for now this will do it!

@ErvenDynamics The engine I use comes from a U boat made by Toscio56, and it has proven to be a great engine for submarines. Easy to install, easy to modify, and it only works underwater.

I do recall having an existing submarine hull from a few weeks back. I never really got too much work on it (mostly details) since it limited the FPS on my phone.

Yepppp I’ve done it a lot (failing that is) And made 2 subs which work kinda. One with cooler functions but less manoeuvrability the other is manoeuvrable but not detailed @MintLynx

@Axartar Trying is the first step to success, Failing being a likely step, but still a step toward success.

I have very little experience with submarines but I dunno I might. I like trying 😂
