Headtracking. Ahem. cough.

34 Plank  6.4 years ago

hello! Hi! * wave * it's me!
.....................

Hardware: Sony eye cam with the mods... ( It's not for fain of heart )
Software: OpenTrack and Vjoy.
....................

Install both.
Get Opentrack to output a virtual joystick ( Vjoy... the V is for Virtual...)

Get Simple planes to assign the vjoy output to the head move input.

.........................

Menu/setting/controls.

To actually get SP to recognise the Vjoy output you have to click on the
"vjoy- Virtual joystick" Button.
Then scroll down to:

CAMERA LOOK

LOOK LEFT/RIGHT

and in the column called CONTROLLER there is an empty box...
Click in that box... and a dialogue thingy will pop up and you
train the input to accept your vjoy out put.... ( move your head L/R )

er. yes.

So this seems to work ok!

Next task is to get the curves in Opentrack to be cool.
This is a never ending tweak.
Hi my name is Planky and I like tweaking...

"Monitor Vjoy" will show you if Vjoy is actually doing anything with
your headtracking data.

Er, yeah. i probably blasted through this too fast. Coffee...
But I can answer some questions... well, possibly. : - )

So I got it to work in SP with a bit of bumbling along. Yey!

Salute!

Planky.

Hey there. I stopped gaming etc for a while and have yet to pick it back again. My pc is gathering dust !
Mostly reading books these days and gardening. Though i did try out 3d modeling to a lesser extent with sketchup, and rcdeskpilot. Made a joystick model from scratch, very basic but it works. Using a plugin that exports directX etc. Its all very old school. Like me. Ha ha.
At the moment i dont even have proper internet at home, just phone data. So online stuff is out. Good too! I have way more spare time!!!
Nice planes by the way, cool!
I should get connected and have a look.
    Merry christmas to you!

Okay this seems to work pretty fine, but I can't get the controller and Vjoy to work simultaneously.

    Oh.
Yes I see what you mean...
After a restart I am stuck with the 90deg ... darn.
Please can you post your "small device" !!!

If there a CONFIG file to adjust that has the default camera yaw numbers???
    Yey!

    Hello Mister T!

Wow. ok. I am a noob in this area! Well in all SP areas actually.. !!!

Uh, I seem to have constant 360deg rotation on yaw look with Opentrack and Vjoy.
Not limited to 90deg... I get like 900deg... or so. * shrug *

Dogfighting ! yes. I am a pro at that! Trust me... I know what I am doing.

Yey! I have no idea what I am doing!

    Thank you!

    Hi Plank,
I also use Trackir with Simple Planes, and I noticed that there's a limit of 90° when you assign vjoy to camera look. The problem is, that is useless during dogfight, because you often have to look behind you.
So, I assigned vjoy axes to Trim and VTOL, and I built a small device that rotate the camera with Trim and VTOL.
Now, i can adjust turning sensivity and max angle for both axis, I also linked it to a piston system that simulate G-force.
To use Trim and VTOL on plane parts, i simply set the rotators of camera on AG8, so, i de-activate 8, de-activate Trackir, and I can use Trim and VTOL for any other system.
I can post this camera device as unlisted, just ask me if you want it.
