Does anybody know if there is a bug with detachers? Specifically, when parts are detached are they removed from the plane for purposes of weight or drag?
I've got a plane that when I take off on it's own goes over 1400 mph, but when I use a detachable sled with wheels, it's speed and acceleration are cut nearly in half, even though I ditch the sled on take off.
Okay the problem seems to be to be specific to this build. I put together a simple jet and it didn't have the problem. In fact it was about 5 mph faster thanks to the sled.

The changes to your center of gravity might be causing your plane be be unstable... but thats just a guess. You should post a link so ppl can check it out. Also, make sure to test speed at a certain altitude, 1400mph at 80,000 feet is way easier than 1000mph at 100feet.
