I went to an air show at Scott AFB

I took my two oldest progeny to an airshow this weekend at Scott Air Force Base in southern Illinois. The place was packed and there were tons of awesome planes. Literally tons....actually, thousands of tons, since there was a C-17 and other cargo planes in the mix.

After working our way through the packed security checkpoint, the first plane that caught my eye was an A-10. The plane that was built for a gun. I had never seen one in person, so I had to go check out the canon up close. This amazing feat of engineering is capable of spraying out over $100k of depleted uranium munitions per minute.

Close by the A-10 was an F-16. When I was working at Boeing, I worked on an F-16 flight simulator, so I've spent a lot of time sifting through the actual code running on these beautiful fighters. It's hard for me to believe the F-16 has been around for over 43 years!

There were several other fighters, but then the Tora, Tora, Tora performance started and caught our attention. Very impressive show, with several WW2 era planes, including some Japanese Zeros and a P-51 Mustang. They even had pyrotechnics on the ground to simulate bomb explosions.

We stayed for a while longer checking out the other planes and the booths (seriously considering trying to get a SimplePlanes booth next year) and when we were on our way out we looked up and saw a billion dollar airplane doing a flyover.

It was an amazing air show. I wish I could have taken more pictures, but it's hard when I've got the kids with me. I hope they can do it again next year and maybe we can get a booth for SimplePlanes.

I’ve been able to see one of the only flying F7F Tigercats at an air show in Nampa, Idaho.

Do me a favor: can you be at the Philippine Hot Air Balloon Festival next year?

Apparently it's the worlds busiest airport in the country whenever it's going on. It's the 21 of July, Friday. @AndrewGarrison

Very cool. Thank you for the pictures. They looked incredible. I really like the shape of the B-2 Spirit at the end!

I was at the Thunder Over Georgia 2K16. Got to sit on the flight line, and there was a lot of cool planes. B-25, A-10, F-16, AC-130, C-5 Galaxy, a Globemaster, P-40, P-41, Zero, T-6, Mig 6, F-22, F-18/A Super hornet. There was also some performers, like the USAF Thunderbirds, of course, the Army Black Daggers, Patty Wagstaff, and Tora, Tora, Tora! complete with pyrotechnics. Sorry for going on a little bit of a rant.

Strangely we've been seeing some of your wierd black triangle aircraft flying about our jolly island on the other side of the pond. Also seeing the Vulcan on its last flight was very sad and cool and loud.
