Operation Renown

On 10th December, 1938, taking the chance of a snowstorm, the commerence raiding force of H Navy has secretly departed one of their largest fortified port in Snowstone and head for the open seas. The fleet, which was composed of 2 Urocolius class aircraft carriers,1 modernized Aurora class battlecruiser, 3 Tisiphone class destroyer flotilla leaders, 2 Svadilfari class destroyer flotilla leaders and 6 gale class destroyers, is now heading towards the Maywar Islands.

On 17th December, the fleet was detected by a SAN's scout aircraft. Although the plane was shoted down immediately by intense AA fire, warnings have already been sent to the admiralty of SAN. Noticing the waring had already been sent, the raiding fleet then retreat to the north to prevent a large scale battle.

Later, on 19th December, 1938, the fighter wing from HNS Urocolius discovered that the SAN, having SAN Goruden Akuma as the flagship is chasing after them on a regular patrol mission. Torpedo bomber squadrons and dive bomber squadrons from HNS Urocolius and her sister ship HNS Nightingale were dispatched to take out the battleship. Although two torpedos and one bomb hit Goruden Akuma, the damage inflicted is minor. At the mean time, Nightingale was struck by a 460mm shell from Goruden Akuma 23km away, penetrating the flight deck and forcing her to be repaired in the dry dock for a few months. The fleet disengaged after a series of prolonged evasive maneuvers.

During this operation, 2 merchant ships and 1 auxiliary cruiser were sunk with total tonnage of 46,608 tons.

On the next day, the war officially started.
