@RedHawk This is very true-- I've tried a few designs with hardly any drag, but there's a massive issue is with stability, ironically enough.

Well getting the lowest possible drag combined with a couple of engine will work, however this is easier said than done thanks to bugs in the editor when it come to drag

You can nudge a bunch of engines together and make them look like one!

Do you count using XML to place parts as XML modding? If not maybe you can try to make a missle booster. I'm not sure it can reach 5 at sea level but its maximum speed is higher compared to any other not modded engine.

there is no way I know of to make a hypersonic vehicle the only ways I know of are by making a pile of engines or modding after all the fastest vehicles use these techniques

Give me a definitive "yes."
Give me a lead to go on "I don't know, but here's a concept."
Actually tell me how to do it.
