Theoretically you can do it with external volume controls on headphones. I've had no luck with that either

Have you tried going into the main settings (on the main menu when you first open the app), going into Controls "Configure", tapping on the "designer" tab and then scrolling down to "part positioning". I've never tried it, but it might be worth a shot if you're all out of options.

I had the same problem on my IPad as well and I know of another user in the same boat. Spent the money on a Bluetooth keyboard and had zero luck with SP.
