Suggestion: Ability to choose which planes can spawn as AI in Sandbox

31.7k NecoArcBubbles  8.1 years ago

The title says almost all, but here are a few reasons as to why I suggest this:

The game can't differentiate between planes, ground vehicles, etc. By doing this manually a player can prevent tanks and boats from spawning in the air just to crash.

The crashing of many non-planes can cause framerate drops, and it wastes a spot for an actual plane. I know there's a part limit, but this can help even more, especially on mobile, where even the 7 wings to 150 parts limit is huge.
EDIT: This could also override the limit to help those high-end PC users that want their AI to be able to exceed it.

Some people might like to fly with a few certain planes only, whether it be for a scenario, just testing, or anything else.

@OPOutcast as far as I know there's currently no proper way for the AI to control boats, so everything starts in the air regardless of what it is.

@Skua Most of my planes have bouyancy. Will this change the spawning algoritm. Example my plane starts in the water as a boat cause it thinks its a boat because it has bouyancy. Simpleplanes is a great game all in all but a function to tag a creation as a fighter, bomber/transport, vehicle, boat would be great.

@IStoleYourMeme just from reading a dev's comment somewhere

Interesting, the "unless it's edited" bit must explain the issues of @DragonAerotech's and mine, but I still think such a feature would be nice to have. Out of curiosity, how do you know about that? @Skua

In response to the general post: the first time it loads a file up, it does a quick test to determine whether or not it's flyable. If it's a car or a ship or something, it won't be flyable, and it will fail the test. After that, it won't load that design again unless it is edited

Cause i am honestly done raising hell about the part limit, which jacked up my gaming experience. I've asked for help and got no response as the Devs only talk to a few players. @Skua go head and ban me for this post, as Im taking a savatical anyway.

@TheMasterSoldier Maybe even attempting to escort would be easier. Like A B-29 being escorted by a P-51D Mustang. And so the B-29 doesn't act like a Fighter and acts like a Bomber

Oh, definitely a GREAT idea!!!! There are some real annoying flies I'd like to prevent from spawning. And yes, I've seen an all black gloss simple hetzer floating in the water off of Yeager Field since my son DL'd it, colored it and gave it bouyancy. lol
