@Graingy
rare engines
not a generic model train game
unique-ish art style
BC rail
(once) active player base
trains having interiors
sandpatch being the only game to have certain railroads in it
devs caring about the game (ignore the drama for a second)
also the fact that most train games on roblox are mostly steam only.
this is also the (as of typing this) one of the few train game set in this time period in the united states (1950s-80s)
@Graingy also another thing, sandpatch is really a one of a kind game, yes there is other train games to play on roblox but there is really no other games like sandpatch. also the completion looks at other games died thanks to you know what, along with sandpatch. i really only play thanks to updates and in private servers.
@Graingy
so a moderator wasnt able to, well, moderate for 3 weeks. so some other moderators made them no longer a mod and booted them out of sandpatch's discord server. their engines got reused and patched over by another mod. after the first mod came back, saw what was happening asked what happened and only AFTER what happened they explained they had cancer and had to get treated. along with the toxic workplace stuff and what i just explained a handful of railfan channels exposed the incident and a bunch of devs/mods/admins left, leaving only the original friend group remaining (and the guy who started this mess along with another loyal dev).
@Graingy
yes. and no he isnt a (how do i say it while getting around the automod?) pred or something. he just is not a nice guy to work around, also there was drama with a moderator who wasnt able to work thanks to cancer's special engines getting stolen by another and they got deranked.
it was a mess.
@Graingy no the thing is i know there is more engines they have. the ones accessible in private servers (like these BC rail engines) i haven't seen a dev use in years. im only calling them surplus as it just feels like they are, surplus to the devs/admins as they 150% have more engines to screw around with (also the fact that most of the admins/devs left working on the game due to the fact the guy who's friend group started this isnt a great guy, and i recognize a handful of engines belonging to that group of admins and devs).
@Graingy the thing is the BC rail engines are dev units, trains designed for only the ingame DEVS to mess around with. yet for some reason decided to allow the public have a shot at a bunch of surplus engines in private servers. so the engines shown have fancy cool admin/dev tech and experimental stuff normal publicly available trains dont. and how can i tell i derailed thanks to someone screwing up something with a car? something must have clipped a bridge i was crossing over and fumbled the train
aaaaand i derailed due to by the looks of it the devs who made the engines (or the 2 cars that are behind the rear engine) fumbled something and caused a minor derailment
@Graingy only reason why its famous is
1. its cool as shit (at least to me lmao)
2. its overused in movies, like seriously, once you hear it you cant unhear it
@Boeing727200F What makes a generic model train game?
@Graingy
rare engines
not a generic model train game
unique-ish art style
BC rail
(once) active player base
trains having interiors
sandpatch being the only game to have certain railroads in it
devs caring about the game (ignore the drama for a second)

this is also the (as of typing this) one of the few train game set in this time period in the united states (1950s-80s)
@Boeing727200F You say it's one of a kind.
In what sense?
@Graingy also another thing, sandpatch is really a one of a kind game, yes there is other train games to play on roblox but there is really no other games like sandpatch. also the completion looks at other games died thanks to you know what, along with sandpatch. i really only play thanks to updates and in private servers.
@Boeing727200F I see a code of ethics doesn't fit within the loading gauge.
@Graingy no but BC rail.
@Boeing727200F ... Is it ethical to still play that game, then?
@Graingy
so a moderator wasnt able to, well, moderate for 3 weeks. so some other moderators made them no longer a mod and booted them out of sandpatch's discord server. their engines got reused and patched over by another mod. after the first mod came back, saw what was happening asked what happened and only AFTER what happened they explained they had cancer and had to get treated. along with the toxic workplace stuff and what i just explained a handful of railfan channels exposed the incident and a bunch of devs/mods/admins left, leaving only the original friend group remaining (and the guy who started this mess along with another loyal dev).
@Boeing727200F Ah. Toxic workplace.
What do you mean "cancer's special engines" and "deranked"?
@Graingy
yes. and no he isnt a (how do i say it while getting around the automod?) pred or something. he just is not a nice guy to work around, also there was drama with a moderator who wasnt able to work thanks to cancer's special engines getting stolen by another and they got deranked.
it was a mess.
@Boeing727200F Is that guy still involved, or...?
@Graingy no the thing is i know there is more engines they have. the ones accessible in private servers (like these BC rail engines) i haven't seen a dev use in years. im only calling them surplus as it just feels like they are, surplus to the devs/admins as they 150% have more engines to screw around with (also the fact that most of the admins/devs left working on the game due to the fact the guy who's friend group started this isnt a great guy, and i recognize a handful of engines belonging to that group of admins and devs).
@Boeing727200F You say surplus. Is there a limited stock?
still dont know why i was just allowed to play with the cool surplus dev trains. but here we are i guess
@Graingy real train, real livery
@Boeing727200F Why would only the Devs use that skin?
@Graingy the thing is the BC rail engines are dev units, trains designed for only the ingame DEVS to mess around with. yet for some reason decided to allow the public have a shot at a bunch of surplus engines in private servers. so the engines shown have fancy cool admin/dev tech and experimental stuff normal publicly available trains dont. and how can i tell i derailed thanks to someone screwing up something with a car? something must have clipped a bridge i was crossing over and fumbled the train
@Boeing727200F Next time I mess something I'm just gonna blame it on The Devs(TM) lol
aaaaand i derailed due to by the looks of it the devs who made the engines (or the 2 cars that are behind the rear engine) fumbled something and caused a minor derailment
@Graingy lemme find some i guess
though im still playing around with the engines shown (oh i love these things)
@Boeing727200F Hm.
You don't have any examples of a non-BC Rail horn for contrast, do you?
@Graingy yeah i think the fact that the horn audio is overused a LOT might play a role in why it sounds like any other horn
@Boeing727200F I clearly am not familiar enough with train horns because to me it sounds like any other train horn.
@Graingy only reason why its famous is
1. its cool as shit (at least to me lmao)
2. its overused in movies, like seriously, once you hear it you cant unhear it
Oh cool.
I didn't know there was a famous horn?
@Subsere Ever seen these before?
