About the Challenge

Hey SPs!
I’ve got an announcement about the “Soviet’s WW2 Planes Challenge”, which I’m hosting from December 30 to February 16.

First, the judging system for this challenge honestly has me a bit confused. We all know that Fighters, Attackers, and Bombers are judged differently, and that just ends up making the whole scoring system way more complicated than it should be.

At first, I planned to separate the podiums for Fighters, Bombers, and Attackers, with five winners each, just like what’s written in the challenge description. The problem is, if one aircraft type ends up with fewer than five entries, it becomes unfair.

I’ve even consulted with a few people who have experience organizing competitions, but I still haven’t found a solid solution. I even asked ChatGPT and Gemini. Yee, really.

So for now, I’ll keep thinking about the judging system until the very end of the challenge.

Second, I feel like quite a few participants didn’t fully understand what’s written in the description.

Let me stress this again: this challenge only allows replica aircraft that were used by the Soviet Union or served under the Soviet Union during World War II. That means no post-warstufff, like missiles or Cold War-era jet aircraft.

You are allowed to make replicas of captured aircraft used by the Soviets, as long as they actually flew or saw combat at least once. Aircraft that were captured only for research or testing and never saw real action do not count.

    @SimplyElegant Hmm...
    Maybe it counts, yes, even if it wasn't always owned by the Soviets, but the rule states that at least it flew once on a mission for the Soviets. Yes, even if they might not fly again or be destroyed immediately, it doesn't negate the fact that it once served for the Motherland.

    What about lend-lease?
    (Since most of their stuff was American and British…)
